As for the second meme...
Comment to this entry and I'll pick three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
I got Dragon Ball, Lord of the Rings, Gundam Wing.
For Dragon Ball:
1) Mostly it's that I saw episodes of the first Dragon Ball series on the Canadian channel YTV (Youth Television). They kept re-airing the same first 8 or so episodes. Eventually one day, we visited a friend of my mother's house, and their kids had a few volumes of the Dragon Ball manga laying around. I read one on the spot and borrowed a few others. I don't even think I read them in order, and the volumes I found started at the Vejita era. From then on I basically borrowed them from the library whenever they became available, as they were quite popular back then. I've also seen most of the japanese episodes of the Cell and Majin Buu arcs.
2) I think I've already moved on. I haven't stopped liking this series because it *is* a classic of anime after all, but I've definitely found series that I prefer because they have a greater depth of plot and character development, as well as less repetitiveness and drawn-out battles.
3) I really don't remember the episode numbers or anything, but among my favorite arcs were the final two, which were the Cell and Majin Buu arcs. What I refused to watch were any of the filler arcs (and Dragon Ball has quite a few of these), all of the movies, OAVs and everything else, except for the two TV specials about Goku's father and Trunks, because these make perfect sense and do not interfere with the plot of the series. I of course also have no interest in Dragon Ball GT. If I were to name a favorite character, it would be a fair tie between Goku and Trunks.
4) Nope, since I've really already moved on from it. I did buy this one nice horizontal scroll with pretty much everyone on it, and my standard is to get at least one nice scroll per series that I really like. However, they don't seem to be making as many wall scrolls anymore, since I can't find any for series like D.Gray-Man.
5) I think that everyone should try this series at least once. It is a classic, and no matter how cheesy some parts can get, it still remains an excellent series. I think the same thing about every series I've ever watched and enjoyed, because I am very picky with my series and I find the serious ones most worthwhile.
Moving on to Lord of the Rings:
1) Well, I had heard a lot about it. Shortly before the movies came out, I kept seeing advertisements for a play or something like that at my college. I've always been interested in fantasy, so when the first movie came out, I went to watch it. I heard there were some differences between the movies and books, but so far I've never read the books.
2) I've bought the special edition DVDs and all, but I've definitely already moved on. For now, I don't plan on reading the books.
3) I don't really recall the movies that well, actually, but I think I remember liking the second one particularly. I recall I enjoyed the extras on the DVDs too.
4) Same as for Dragon Ball, I've already moved on from it. I never had a strong enough interest to join MLs about this.
5) The books are pretty popular, and I think they are probably enjoyable. It should be worth it to any fantasy fan to read them and/or see all the movies at least once. It can probably be considered a classic of fantasy. I also consider Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series to be a classic fantasy series. It saddens me deeply that the author died before he could complete the series, but I am glad that Brandon Sanderson is writing the last few books for him.
And last but not least, Gundam Wing:
1) I can't say I remember very well, but it was probably that I saw episodes on YTV. Then of course I researched the japanese episodes online. I think at the time, YTV was just beginning to include more anime in its lineup. I remember I was fascinated by Heero from the first. I also liked Quatre and Relena.
2) I'll always like this series, and I won't mind rewatching episodes occasionally, but I have definitely already moved on from it because there's nothing left to do with it.
3) In terms of favorite episodes, I loved when Quatre piloted the Wing Zero and Heero piloted the Epyon. What I didn't particularly care for was Endless Waltz. A plot cooked up by any kind of child makes no sense to me. I really only liked the songs of that OAV. There's a manga called Battlefield of Pacifist which I enjoyed. In terms of favorite characters, it's a tie between Heero and Quatre. Usually I don't like female main characters in anime because they tend to fall into one of two categories: wimpy or bitchy. But I liked Relena for her strength. I kept looking for the reasons that most fans seemed to hate Relena so much, and the main conclusion I've reached is that people are mostly jealous. Most of the reasons I've heard for disliking her are superficial, some downright idiotic. As an independent female character who is strong without being a cocky bitch, I really like her.
4) Not anymore. I used to be on a ML as well as go in chatrooms, but after a while there's just nothing to talk about anymore.
5) Same as for Dragon Ball, I think that everyone should try this series at least once. It is a classic mecha series, as pretty much all Gundam series are, and still remains an excellent series that fans look back upon fondly.

Anyway, if you want a letter, how about A?
Btw, I'd like to fill out the second one too. can you give me three fandoms?
- Fushigi Yuugi
- Finder series
- Death Note
Happy Birthday!
Re: Happy Birthday!
Would you like to do either of those memes? If so, I'll give you the letter B for the first one, and I pick the following of your interests: Kekkaishi, Prince of Tennis and Shurato. ^_^

Re: Happy Birthday!
Anyway, about Kekkaishi, is the channel you're talking about YTV? I no longer get YTV with our current plan with Bell. I don't know about the BGMs, but from what Otaku of Concordia has shown of it, the OPs and EDs were interesting.
About PoT, I enjoyed it while the club was showing the first 20 or so episodes, but then they stopped because of some idiots who couldn't keep their mouths shut during the episodes, and I just didn't follow it after that. I have to admit that I'd once considered buying the Seigaku outfit, but they were so expensive I quickly gave up on that. Have you ever bought it, btw? I know there are others for the other teams too.
So Shurato, it has good BGMs along with having good songs? All those seiyuu you mention, were they in both Sailor Moon and Shurato, or in only of those? And you're right, you can't call anything filler if it's an anime-only series. That would be like calling YST's Gaiden OAV filler. I don't know if I ever told you this, but a short while back, I had won an auction that had not only all five of YST's model kits of the troopers, but also included Shurato and Gai model kits. I can show you the pics I've saved from the auction if you're interested, they looked very nice assembled from the pictures on the boxes. Btw, YST had the same sort of theme as Shurato, only that it was generally more about samurais and had elements of both Shinto and Buddhism. You should give it a try, I think you would really like it. There is a torrent for the japanese episodes with english subtitles here. It was made from the American DVDs, so some terms like attack names are incorrect.
Re: Happy Birthday!
Shurato BGM... hmm... I don't have any of the BGM CDs. Various BGM comes to mind though. It went very well with the series. The character songs were decent too.
No, no main Sailor Moon seiyuu are in Shurato. Shurato started my seiyuu following. Shurato was first shonen series (if I don't count Star Blazers and Robotech and Gatchaman dubs saw as a kid) I tried. First broadening of horizons in anime genres ^^
Model kits of Shurato and Gai? Cool. I like intricate and detailed things but I have no knack for putting kits together.
I do want to see Samurai Troopers but really have too much to watch... got series from 1-5 years ago I still haven't started or finished. ; _ ;
Re: Happy Birthday!
YST is one of those series where pretty much every character song is great. Some are group songs that can get kinda crazy, like Midnight Party. There are a few duets as well, and one my favorites is "Wonder - Toki ni Nageru Gimonfu". Of course, the BGMs are also very nice. I have saved mp3s on my comp of my favorite ones. I could send them to you if you want, those that don't have spoilers.
Good to know. I myself loved the YST seiyuus. I love songs by Nakamura Daiki (Seiji's seiyuu). I have heard Kusao Takeshi (Ryou's seiyuu) as Trunks in Dragon Ball, Sasaki Nozomu (Shin's seiyuu) as Yuusuke in Yuu Yuu Hakusho (probably some others I'm forgetting at the moment). I don't know the other two voice actors as well. Some of the YST character songs have unrecorded instrumental versions that were used in some of the last few episodes. I'll definitely try Shurato someday, when I have more money.
Those two were just a bonus for me, since I wanted mostly the five troopers. Well, model kits, even though they have japanese instructions, you can usually tell from the illustrations which parts go together. Especially if you have an idea of what the finished product will look like. Plus there are usually letters for each set of parts (like, say, all parts of the same color), and numbers for individual parts. Often, say in set A for example, you will have parts 1 and 2 which will be mirrors of each other and you'll basically have to put them together to make a whole. Occasionally some tiny parts that look like screws will have to be put between two parts, leaving a little hole at the top where another part can be inserted.
For YST, I'd say watch maybe 5 episodes at a time. uTorrent is good for downloading only a few episodes at a time. Or you could rent the DVDs if you know any place that has them. And YST is a relatively short series, so might be a good idea to start with it. Also, it is one of those you are least likely to regret having watched. It just has too many good elements.
Re: Happy Birthday!
But I haven't watched an anime episode in 3 weeks now... FMA, Pandora Hearts, Kurokami, Conan, Valkyria Chronicles, Ashura Cryin, 07-Ghost, BLEACH... all behind on. Why I don't want to delve into another series. ~_~
You gave me some YST seiyuu/song info before. Thanks ^_^
Don't need to use glue with these kits? Definite plus then. ^^
Re: Happy Birthday!
Ah, I'm actually following two of those from our local club having shown the first two episodes: Pandora Hearts and 07-Ghost. Or at least I'll be following them once I downloaded more episodes. ^^;;; Anyway, I think YST is one of those easy to follow series. I think it has ok cliffhangers.
Yeah, I think I remember that. Btw, your City Hunter icon is too cute. ^_^
Yeah, the pieces just snap together. The ones where you'd use glue are resin garage kits, I believe. Model kits are plastic.
Re: Happy Birthday!
Pandora Hearts series like the most out of all the spring 2009 series I've tried.
Right, resin kits...
Wow, you knew it was City Hunter! ^^ (next to no one on my flist has watched it (or knows it) which depresses me as it's still my #1 fav)
Re: Happy Birthday!
Re: Happy Birthday!
City Hunter is well liked in France and Italy even though it was YEARS ago when it was shown (dubbed).
Three more series we've had in common. :D Haha, I should have known from our YST discussions that there would be a couple other series in common. :)
