Hoshino Interview, Part 3

Ok, this is a little late because I've been very tired these past two days, but here is my translation of strike_kun's french translation of the third part of the interview with Hoshino.

I: Which parts of your work did he compliment?
H: It wasn't like that, I wasn't being careful enough. Ah ~ I thought he was going to get irritated and fire me on the spot. He told me "Stop copying other people's styles, try to find your own!". It's true that at the time, I was in such a rush that I would copy the styles of manga series I had read.

I: Finding your own style? That must have been tough.
H: As an animator, you can't really have "your own style". All you do is copy. Therefore, one could say that I had never really drawn manga. It was when I realized that I could only draw shoujo manga that I decided to find my own style by practicing.

I: By practing... you mean that you drew in different styles before finding yours?
H: Indeed. I had decided to draw nonstop to find a manga style I liked. For instance, I wondered if I really liked the type of events I drew, or if I liked the story's development: I thought that by drawing a lot, it would come to me naturally. What I mean is, I wasn't concerned with the drawings themselves, but rather only drew tons of storyboards. It was fun to draw that many. To that day, I had never really thought about it.

I: You found what seemed to be a rather horrid experience fun!
H: It really was fun! While drawing, I was totally immersed in my world. I would imagine things that I could never have thought of and I had a perverted mind with a smirk (laugh). I felt like I was drunk. I think that all mangakas feel the same. And in addition, the person who was gonna read these storyboards wasn't my sister, but a complete stranger: I was a nervous wreak. And I still am.

I: What kind of stories did you draw? Zombie stories and then...
H: There were many about samurais, but I've also done a lot of science fiction, especially time travel stories.

I: Up until then, you seemed to do rather well for a beginning.
H: Not really. I would often hear "draw a new storyboard" on the phone. What's more, at the time, my younger brother had offered me a job as an animator in a video game company. It was a stable job, the contract terms were good and the company even gave me tons of explanations.

I: You must have hesitated.
H: Yes. Publishing manga was commonplace for my editorial manager, but as for myself, I knew nothing about it. When my manager stopped telling me which were the good points of my manga stories, it confused me a bit: I didn't know whether it meant that he trusted me or not, and would always ask him if he thought I was wasting his time. (laugh) I never could find out whether my manager was a strange person or he just did it on purpose. Then, when I was worried about my first work and was wondering if a similar story existed already, my manager firmly told me "Don't think about unnecessary things and do your best!" And so, the only feeling I had while drawing was to do my best for my manager. He was a really convincing person. (laugh)

I: And now, you're with your 3rd manager. (laugh)
I: You spoke of SF (science fiction) stories a bit earlier, you must have read a lot of science fiction novels to gather information, right?
H: I think that I've only read those that everyone else has... I myself didn't know what type of story I liked: stories about the universe, stories about particles or scientific stories could all excite me while I was reading them. Even though in the case of particles, they are normally invisible to the naked eye. But I really like the context of those stories: "you can't see it, but you know that it exists".

I: You're talking about things that exist but which we cannot touch?
H: Yes, that's exactly it. We tell ourselves that there are some here, surely some over there as well (points to various places) but we can't really confirm their existence as long as we don't see them for ourselves. And we probably won't ever be able to...

I: That's a bit philosophical.
H: Indeed. Hm, but I really like that kind of story.

I: You've always liked them since childhood?
H: I've always liked stories about the universe. I love looking at the stars. I would often go on the rooftop at night and reflect on anything and everything. To this day, I love looking at the sky. Even if I can only see it from my porch...

I: We would like to know more about your favorite stories. A while back, you mentioned liking historical stories.
H: And that is still the case! The TV is almost always on the "historical series channel". (laugh)

I: Which story do you like best?
H: Hm ~ I would say it's "Kozure Ookami" (see end of interview notes). In fact, it's recently been rebroadcasted. "Kozure Ookami" was never released on DVD so it's a valuable rerun. I think it's a really splendid piece!

I: "Kozure Ookami"! What do you like about it?
H: The action scenes are good. Kinya-san's acting performance as well, as he really remains true to the character's nature, is serious about his work and this makes his performance a really classy one. "Kozure Ookami" is a real piece of art!

I: Your adoration (for it) seems quite genuine.
H: I really like it. But it wasn't always this way. 20 years ago (she was 9 years old), I wasn't very interested with things relating to manga. I preferred architecture and everything European.

I: And this is where "D.Gray-Man" comes in, right?
H: I did in fact base "D.Gray" on European society, but gathering brochures on Europe had become a trivial matter. One day, I happened upon a magazine titled "Our house, Japan" and I thought "Japan is fabulous!". Up to that day, I think that I had never truly comprehended the splendour of Japan.

I: I see! You drew "D.Gray-Man" because you were more familiar with the European style... What's more, in your opinion, Japan gives off a fresh sensation.
Hoshino Interview, Part 2

Continued from my last post, here is my translation of strike_kun's french translation of the second part of the interview with Hoshino.

I: Aiming for a career as an animator was the trigger, right? (this is the best way I can translate this, but if anyone knows a better way, please let me know)
H: Indeed. While I was reading a magazine about animation, I saw an ad for an animator job on the 4th page from the cover. (I think?) You needed to be 18 years old to participate and I was only 17, but I took a chance.

I: You were only 17 when you participated! That's amazing!
H: At the time, I wanted to attend an art school but was forced to go to a business school instead and really hated it: I kept rebelling against my parents. I would often tell them: "I'm going to quit studying and join an animation institute!" (laugh) Obviously, I never got their approval. I sent my application while thinking "If I send my application without telling anyone, mom will be surprised if I'm accepted". But in the end, I failed. (laugh) But the next year, I wanted to try again just for fun and I was accepted!

I: So you realized your childhood dream at just 18 years old.
H: However, because of my grades, I thought I would be repeating the year. (laugh) My teacher had told me "Before finding a job, you should have made sure to get your diploma." Thankfully, I was able to just barely obtain my diploma, and it was all thanks to people in the industry.

I: And so, you came to Tokyo to become an animator, right?
H: Yes. But after I had begun to work... I realized that if I worked this way my whole life, I would never be satisfied.

I: How did you reach that conclusion?
H: I realized that I didn't want to animate the drawings of others but rather create my own drawings. I was only 18-19 years old and constantly had thoughts such as "I have time to try a bunch of different things before making up my mind" And without telling my mother, I quit.

I: I see. And what did you do afterwards?
H: I was thinking of getting a job as an artist, but I couldn't find anything other than jobs as a picturebook illustrator. (this is the best way I can think to translate this, sorry) I tried to get one published but it didn't work at all. When I had spent all of my money, I decided to leave Tokyo and go back home to my parents. My sister, who was working in a Kyoto hotel, found it rather inconvenient to make the trip from my parents' house to her workplace, and so she decided to move to Kyoto. I went with her and tried to find work there...

I: So after Tokyo, it was Kyoto?
H: Yes. But in the end, I didn't find a job. I couldn't make up my mind about what I wanted to do. I would get a part-time job every once in a while, but I would always stop while thinking that I had to hurry up and find a real job. I thought it might not be too late to become an animator again, but I was undecided. At last, my sister yelled at me: "Work!! You rotten parasite!!" (laugh) I realized she was completely right.

I: She is really a strict older sister!
H: I therefore decided to seriously look for a job. In Tokyo, after having given up on animation, I did many little jobs that I would find in magazine ads. At that time, a friend suggested I draw manga, but I refused. She had a kid who adored manga. And so, I remembered: why not give manga a shot? That's what I told myself. In any case, I had to show my sister that I was serious and I therefore decided to try my luck with manga.

I: And from that point on, you began drawing manga.
H: I made a list of all the manga editors, and decided that I would try drawing for the simple pleasure of it and that I would never think of this job as a chore. My mother approved, thinking that this time, it was the right choice. So, when my sister worked, I would stay at home drawing manga all day. And after I got an appointment with an editing house, I decided to work on the first step of a manga: the storyboard.

I: You mean you hadn't yet completed this step?!
H: Yes. But in spite of that, I absolutely wanted to get my start in "Jump". And so, I called this editing house: I ended up speaking to a very nice man who set up an appointment for one month later... Well, I had already drawn this story in the fanbook. (laugh)

I: This really is a surprising story. Since you couldn't finish the manuscript, you felt like giving up but your sister came home and forcibly dragged you to the train station and you had to take the Shinkansen in your pyjamas. (laugh)
H: Yes, it was exactly like that.

I: To work from 5am for 11 days to finish in time for the appointment... so that was a true story. Knowing that, we realize that your sister really is an impressive person.
H: You're right, she's really impressive. (laugh) This story, since my manager advised me never to mention it, I didn't really feel like publishing it, but in the end, I had to confess. (laugh) The fact that I didn't have enough money to purchase a return ticket for the train was also true. With the 500 yen I had, I bought some pasta for 430 yen in a conbini(?) located next to Shueisha. I began eating in front of the store but an employee came out and told me "Please stop eating here."... It must have been around midnight. What's more, it was raining. (laugh)

I: Huh?! But then...
H: I muttered a "sorry" and took off with my pasta container in hand: I ended up spending the entire night underneath the porch of a library to take shelter from the rain. (laugh) But that day, my manager was really happy that I could make it, since he had thought that I wouldn't be coming.

I: In the end, you made it! And so, the editor became your manager.
H: Yes. But we kept a little under half of the manuscript I had brought, and I also had to draw him something in 3 minutes... I still wonder how he was able to read everything. (laugh) In addition, at the time, I was really wearing a pyjama and coat and looked like a monkey because of my messy hair and my face without any makeup on: I wonder what he thought of me when he saw me like that. (laugh) I think I must have seemed strange and I really wonder why he hired me. However, I'm very grateful to him for it.
Hoshino Interview, Part 1

Here is my translation of strike_kun's french translation of the first part of the interview with Hoshino. I don't guarantee perfection, but this will be as near to accurate a translation as possible. I will use "I" for "interviewer" and "H" for "Hoshino".

I: D.Gray-Man is going to be published in SQ as of this month. Are there many differences between a weekly and monthly series?
H: It should be that way, but I draw very slowly... so it doesn't change much. (laugh)

I: Your back problem has gotten worse recently, hasn't it?
H: Yes, as of last spring. But I feel much better now! It's my wish to continue drawing during my rehabilitation. I was supposed to take two days of rest per week but... in the end, I only promised that I would take an hour of rest after every two hours of work.

I: Did you used to read a lot of manga when you were younger?
H: Not really... Only my little brother's (Dai no Daiboken) and other more adult mangas written by Soryo Fuyumi, Makimura Satoru... they were my mother's. More than manga, I prefer anime, especially Ghibli's films. I used to watch them often, to the point where the tapes didn't work anymore.

I: Which is your favorite?
H: Without a doubt: Nausicaa. I've never tired of it. When I first saw it in my 4th year (? sorry, I don't know the proper equivalent), I was immediately captivated. And after I had seen
"Laputa – Castle in the Sky", I wanted to become an anime animator (or director? not really certain how to properly translate it in english).

I: And when did you decide to become an animator?
H: Before enrolling in university, I hadn't done much. I just liked Hayao Miyazaki. (laugh)

I: Were you drawing at the time?
H: Yes, but it was only at a college level, and I only did little incomplete drawings in a notebook. I've drawn fantasy, but then I opted for the modern world genre. Perhaps I was influenced by Sailor Moon, which I really liked. And in the end, I ended up drawing everything I liked.

I: You were drawing when you were in college?
H: They weren't really manga. I did 4-box strips (sorry, I don't know a better term, but I guess she means the 4koma?) during classes and since I went to the same school as my older sister, I would show her what I'd drawn during breaks. One day, I went to see her 6 times! (laugh) When she would tell me "one more", I would draw during the following class and come back to see her right after... I realize that I was very stupid. (laugh) I would even draw on the backs of the sheets that the teacher handed out. As a matter of fact, during exams, when I couldn't solve a problem, I would turn the exam sheet over and draw, draw, draw... (laugh)

I: When you drew something nice on that kind of sheet and had to erase it, it must have been annoying, right?
H: When I would think "This one's great!" and would suddenly hear "Gather up all the sheets in the front!", I would panic and think "What should I do?!" (laugh)

I: What kind of manga did you draw in those strips?
H: Now that I think about it, they were manga that looked nothing like manga. I had made up a character in the shape of a monkey and I would draw episodes about him, it was a little like a drawing essay. However, I would transfer it to an A4 sheet as soon as I could, even though it would get a little changed. And when I would ask my sister if she found it funny, she'd go "yeah". (sort of a reluctant, dragged out "yeah", but I don't know the english equivalent)

I: Your sister is rather strict, isn't she? (laugh)
H: She's very strict. But when she would say "It's very funny!" while laughing wholeheartedly, it would make me very happy. You could say that I've devoted my entire youth trying to make my sister laugh. (laugh) It was the same as when I would get out of classes, I just had to do something fun, no matter what. My sister would look at me and say "You're really nuts". (laugh)

I: Even apart from manga, you seem to really enjoy making her laugh.
H: Indeed. I always had some way to make her laugh. The only reason I drew was for my sister.

I: But you quickly realized the importance of having readers, right? In the sense that you absolutely wanted to make somebody laugh.
H: Yes, you're probably right. But I was very shy and didn't want to show my drawings to others. As soon as I would finish a drawing, I would hide it. During drawing classes, I would make mine look like a child's. For a child, it's easy to draw their favorite manga character. However, in our class, everyone compared their drawings to see who drew the best: it would become a strange competition. And so, to stop a wall from forming between us, I would always say the same thing: "I don't want to draw manga." To be honest, I was once persecuted and afterwards, I couldn't draw anymore. (laugh)

I: You couldn't do it anymore?!
H: There was one child who thought "I'm the best!" and when he found my drawings, I didn't know what to do... At that time, the atmosphere given off by the students of my class had really scared me. And as of that day, I had sworn to myself that I would never draw again.

I: Doing that, you weren't able to participate in the competition anymore, but your sister must have reacted to it, right?
H: Indeed.
Dragon Ball Kai

This series is perhaps one of the best news of the year for me. Dragon Ball is one of those series that, as many people say, people try to pretend they never watched. Perhaps because of its age, or perhaps because it is generic shounen action. Nonetheless, it was the first of its genre, and to my mind, still the best. I've never denied loving Dragon Ball, in fact it's one of the series I'll mention first and foremost as being one of the best I've read/watched. I didn't get to watch all of Dragon Ball Z in japanese, but I was lucky enough to find most of the subtitled episodes of the Cell and Buu arcs. Since I read the entire manga (as of the Vejiita volumes) first, I always refer to the series as just "Dragon Ball", except if I'm talking specifically about the second anime series. The first one, as far as I know, was never shown in its entirety in english. Or at least, I never saw all of it on any local channel here in Canada. It's a shame really. No matter how many fillers both series had, I would still like to get to watch the first series someday. I did ignore the filler arcs (and single episodes) of Dragon Ball Z, and when you did that, it really became tolerable. As far as I'm concerned, any content that isn't created by Akira Toriyama does not fit into the series. It is both less original than his story and less interesting. That's why I never took any interest in Dragon Ball GT. From the beginning, I found it boring and generic, something which I've never thought of the original Dragon Ball. There might be some repetitiveness in the battles, but overall Dragon Ball always did keep me at the edge of my seat. I loved reading the manga, and seeing those scenes animated and colored was a real thrill.

To me, since I hate fillers, Dragon Ball Kai is essentially a new and improved Dragon Ball Z. The very title, the "kai", does mean "revision" or "remake", after all. I did notice a few scenes having been cut so far that were in the manga, but I don't mind those. Better to have a few cuts than entire arcs of filler episodes. It's only taken about 17 episodes to get through the Vejiita arc, which is half the time it took Dragon Ball Z to do so, and we're already halfway through the Freezer arc at just 26 episodes. Best of all, most of the old seiyuu came back to record the voices. New ones like Midorikawa Hikaru for Tenshinhan are pretty interesting. If nothing else, I had always wanted to see the Freezer arc in japanese, so I get that chance now. I get to see this series in the making, and just like for D.Gray-Man, there's a certain delight in that. Goku and Gohan's voice actress still sounds as good as ever, and I was surprised to find out that she is actually 72 years old.

So, what is there to say about Dragon Ball Kai. As a number of people will point out, it's harmless, silly fun, so you lose nothing in trying it out. But coming from a person like me who doesn't like series based mainly or solely on humor (ie, with basically no real plot), this is pretty high praise. The humor in Dragon Ball has always been just right for me, whether it's Piccolo's sarcasm or Goku's cluelessness. I've always had a fondness for Goku as a character from the moment I first saw the dub of the first episode of the first series. He's an all-around cute, determined, fearless, brave and often silly character. I don't see that he's changed much as an adult either, if at all. Goku has this sort of childish charm no matter what age he is. Despite Dragon Ball being a humorous series, it has achieved the perfect mix of action, lovable characters and humor. Generally speaking, this is just a fun series to watch. I can't wait to see the Cell arc, especially since I'm a big fan of Gohan. Hopefully they will use a song even half as worthy of "Unmei no Hi ~Tamashii VS Tamashii~" for the scene of Gohan's power-up against Cell in Dragon Ball Kai. To date, this remains to many the best song in all of Dragon Ball Z.

You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:

01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

I got Dragon Ball, Lord of the Rings, Gundam Wing.

For Dragon Ball:

1) Mostly it's that I saw episodes of the first Dragon Ball series on the Canadian channel YTV (Youth Television). They kept re-airing the same first 8 or so episodes. Eventually one day, we visited a friend of my mother's house, and their kids had a few volumes of the Dragon Ball manga laying around. I read one on the spot and borrowed a few others. I don't even think I read them in order, and the volumes I found started at the Vejita era. From then on I basically borrowed them from the library whenever they became available, as they were quite popular back then. I've also seen most of the japanese episodes of the Cell and Majin Buu arcs.

2) I think I've already moved on. I haven't stopped liking this series because it *is* a classic of anime after all, but I've definitely found series that I prefer because they have a greater depth of plot and character development, as well as less repetitiveness and drawn-out battles.

3) I really don't remember the episode numbers or anything, but among my favorite arcs were the final two, which were the Cell and Majin Buu arcs. What I refused to watch were any of the filler arcs (and Dragon Ball has quite a few of these), all of the movies, OAVs and everything else, except for the two TV specials about Goku's father and Trunks, because these make perfect sense and do not interfere with the plot of the series. I of course also have no interest in Dragon Ball GT. If I were to name a favorite character, it would be a fair tie between Goku and Trunks.

4) Nope, since I've really already moved on from it. I did buy this one nice horizontal scroll with pretty much everyone on it, and my standard is to get at least one nice scroll per series that I really like. However, they don't seem to be making as many wall scrolls anymore, since I can't find any for series like D.Gray-Man.

5) I think that everyone should try this series at least once. It is a classic, and no matter how cheesy some parts can get, it still remains an excellent series. I think the same thing about every series I've ever watched and enjoyed, because I am very picky with my series and I find the serious ones most worthwhile.

Moving on to Lord of the Rings:

1) Well, I had heard a lot about it. Shortly before the movies came out, I kept seeing advertisements for a play or something like that at my college. I've always been interested in fantasy, so when the first movie came out, I went to watch it. I heard there were some differences between the movies and books, but so far I've never read the books.

2) I've bought the special edition DVDs and all, but I've definitely already moved on. For now, I don't plan on reading the books.

3) I don't really recall the movies that well, actually, but I think I remember liking the second one particularly. I recall I enjoyed the extras on the DVDs too.

4) Same as for Dragon Ball, I've already moved on from it. I never had a strong enough interest to join MLs about this.

5) The books are pretty popular, and I think they are probably enjoyable. It should be worth it to any fantasy fan to read them and/or see all the movies at least once. It can probably be considered a classic of fantasy. I also consider Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series to be a classic fantasy series. It saddens me deeply that the author died before he could complete the series, but I am glad that Brandon Sanderson is writing the last few books for him.

And last but not least, Gundam Wing:

1) I can't say I remember very well, but it was probably that I saw episodes on YTV. Then of course I researched the japanese episodes online. I think at the time, YTV was just beginning to include more anime in its lineup. I remember I was fascinated by Heero from the first. I also liked Quatre and Relena.

2) I'll always like this series, and I won't mind rewatching episodes occasionally, but I have definitely already moved on from it because there's nothing left to do with it.

3) In terms of favorite episodes, I loved when Quatre piloted the Wing Zero and Heero piloted the Epyon. What I didn't particularly care for was Endless Waltz. A plot cooked up by any kind of child makes no sense to me. I really only liked the songs of that OAV. There's a manga called Battlefield of Pacifist which I enjoyed. In terms of favorite characters, it's a tie between Heero and Quatre. Usually I don't like female main characters in anime because they tend to fall into one of two categories: wimpy or bitchy. But I liked Relena for her strength. I kept looking for the reasons that most fans seemed to hate Relena so much, and the main conclusion I've reached is that people are mostly jealous. Most of the reasons I've heard for disliking her are superficial, some downright idiotic. As an independent female character who is strong without being a cocky bitch, I really like her.

4) Not anymore. I used to be on a ML as well as go in chatrooms, but after a while there's just nothing to talk about anymore.

5) Same as for Dragon Ball, I think that everyone should try this series at least once. It is a classic mecha series, as pretty much all Gundam series are, and still remains an excellent series that fans look back upon fondly.

Two very strange memes...

ARE YOU:
1. A Cuddler? Yes
2. A morning person? No. >.<
3. Short? Yes
4. In your pajamas? No, although I wish I was.
5. Left handed? For certain things. I was almost ambidextrous as a kid, some things I still do better with the left hand.

LAST:
1. Friend you saw: Three (or was it four?) weeks ago, David.
2. Talked to on the phone: Same timeframe as above, David.
3. Friend you texted: I don't text.
5. Was today better than yesterday? Considering today isn't over yet... but perhaps nothing can beat my auction finds of yesterday.

FAVORITE:
1. Number: 8 (it is the number for luck and money, after all)

2. Season: Summer

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

Q: Do you like anybody right now? More like I always have.

Q: What was the first thing you said this morning? What the hell...? Damn it. (didn't hear the alarm go off)

Q: Do you have anything bothering you? Plenty, yes.

Q: What’s the last movie you watched and who’d you watch it with? On TV, or what? I don't remember the title, I watched it near the end, and alone, but it was a movie about a man who kidnaps two kids and keeps them locked in a room because he and his wife want kids.

Q: Where is the last place you went? To work, two days ago.

Q: Do you smile often?: No

Q: Do you wish upon stars? I guess. Been a while though.

Q: Are you a friendly person?: Yes, though a bit cynical.

Q:Where did you sleep last night? In my bed.

Q: What color shirt are you wearing?: Black (turtleneck sweater)

Q: When was the last time you cried? Two or three days ago, I think.

Q: What was your last thought before going to sleep last night? I wanted to dream of .hack. Also, couldn't find a comfortable position.

Q: What are you about to do? Nothing, since I'm at work and it's slow right now.

Q: Rate life as of right now 1-10? 2. Life sucks, but at least I have some cool auction items on the way.

Q: What do you hear right now? Nothing, office is quiet, unless the hum of the computer counts.

Q: If you could drink anything right this second, what would it be? Pepsi

Q: DOES ANYTHING HURT RIGHT NOW? Physically, my lower back; otherwise, yes.

Q: What’s your favorite month? June, it has perfect weather.

Q: What’s your favorite bottled water? Don't have a preference.

Q: Have a best friend? Don't think so.

Q: How many kids do you want/have? I don't want to bear any myself, but I'd like to adopt two.

TEN EMOTIONS.
1. Are you missing someone right now? Always
2. Are you happy?: No
3. Are you talking to anyone right now? Yes
4. Are you bored? Yes
5. Are you German?: No
6. Are you Irish?: No
7. Are you Asian?: West Asian.
8. Are you Bosnian?: No
9. Are your parents still married?: Yes
10. Do you like someone right now? Always have.

TEN FACTS.
1. Hometown: Beyrouth, Lebanon. (because Canada is no decent hometown)
3. Height: 5'2"
4. Hair style: Thick ponytail
6. Birthday: June 16th 1980
7. Mood: Does cynical count?
8. Sex: Female
9. Available?: Yes
10. Lefty/righty: Righty, but some things I do better with my left hand.

TEN THINGS:
1. Love or lust?: Love
3. Cats or dogs?: Dogs
4. homeboys or homegirls? I'm gonna say homeboys, if only because girls are generally more slutty.
5. Television or internet?: Internet
6. Pepsi or coke?: Pepsi
9. Night or day?: Night
10. AIM or phone?: AIM

TEN HAVE Y0U EVERS
1. Been caught sneaking out?: Yes
3. Done something you regret: Yes, and who hasn't?
4. Bungee jumped?: No
5. Been on a house boat?: No, but it sounds very interesting.
6. Finished an entire jaw breaker?: If you mean an entire piece of candy, yeah, but an entire package of jaw breakers by myself? I doubt it.
7. Wanted something so badly it hurt?: Yes, though most of the time when something like that physically hurts, it's a deeper emotion than merely "wanting".
8. Cheated on someone?: No
9. Been cheated on?: No, but I've been lied to. I guess that counts.
10. Have you ever used "Your face" as a comeback? No, but it sounds like a strange one.

SAY EXACTLY WHATS ON YOUR MIND, AND DON'T CHANGE IT.
1. You & your ex:
The one I'm still in love with, not my teenage crush: yes, I was still in love with him years after, and it's nothing to make fun of, and he's an ass for lying to me about caring about me.

2. I am listening to:
Mostly D.Gray-Man mp3s. Last thing I listened to was the TV size version of the newest ED, Wish. I still prefer Anata go Koko ni Iru Riyuu.

3. Maybe I should:
Study law.

4. I love:
Manga and anime.

5. I don't understand:
Why life is such a bitch to me.

7. I last licked:
Uhh... Your tongue touches anything you eat, but if you're talking about actual licking, it was a piece of Caramilk.

8. The meaning of my display name is:
My LJ one? My absolute favorite manga character to date is Tokyo Babylon's Subaru. I prefer him in TB than in X. Since "kun" was taken as a suffix, I took "san".

-IS YOUR/ARE YOU-
1. Is your hair wet now? No
3. Do you miss someone? Always
4. Are you wearing chapstick?: Yes
5. Are you tired? A little.
6. Are you wearing pajamas? No
7. Are you mad? No
8. Are you upset? Not at the moment.

HAVE YOU
1. Recently done anything you regret?: Yes, and anyone who claims otherwise is lying.
2. Ever lied?: Yes, and anyone who claims otherwise is lying.
4. Have you ever hit someone?: Yes, and anyone who claims otherwise is lying.
5. Ever tripped over your own feet? Yes, and anyone who claims otherwise is lying.

TODAY HAVE YOU:
1. Have you cursed?: Yes
2. Have you gotten mad at someone? Not yet.

RANDOM
Q: Is there a person who is on your mind right now?
A: There always is.

Q: Do you have any siblings?
A : Yes, two.

Q: Do you want children?
A: Yes. Two, adopted.

Q: Do you smile often?
A: No

Q: What is more difficult for you; looking into someone’s eyes when you are telling someone how you feel, or looking into someone’s eyes when they are telling you how they feel?
A: It's harder to tell someone something, I find, and even harder to look them in the eye while saying it. But once someone's talking to you, it's almost impossible not to look them in the eye, so in that sense, that's easier.

Q: You are at the doctor's office and she has just informed you that you have a limited amount of time to live. What do you do with your remaining days?
A: Whatever I happen to feel like doing. Probably buy every rare anime/manga item out there that I'm interested in, and download and watch episodes of every series I've ever considered watching but hadn't gotten around to doing it.

Q: Would you be afraid?
A: Not really. The prospect of death is not frightening, I only fear the thought of a painful death.

Q: Say someone you really cared about died. You have the chance to give them 1 hour of life back, but you have to give one year of your life. Do you?
A: No way. Totally not worth it.

Q: When and how was the last time you told someone HONESTLY how you felt?
A: I do so every day.

Q: Do you untie your shoes every time you take them off?
A: Only if I can't take them off otherwise.

Q: Do you like your handwriting?
A: No, but I don't hate it either.

Q: Who's bed other than yours would you rather sleep in?
A: My brother's.

Q: What color shirt are you wearing right now?
A: Black (turtleneck sweater)

Q: What were you doing at 7PM yesterday?
A: I think I was re-reading a scanlation of one of the volumes of X. Got the urge to re-read this series yesterday, all of a sudden.

Q: I can't wait till:
A: I get married, I guess, since that's the ultimate security.

Q: What would you rather be called?
A: I do love the name Tsukasa. Supposedly an ambiguous name, even though it seems to be used mostly for males.

Q: When did you cry last?
A: Two or three days ago, I think.

Q: Are you a friendly person?
A: Yes, if cynical.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Used to, don't now.

1. Must answer all questions.
2. Be honest.
3. Tag 6 other people.

NAME: Cynthia

BIRTHDAY: June 16th 1980

BIRTHPLACE: Montreal, Quebec, Canada

CURRENT LOCATION: Montreal, Quebec, Canada

EYE COLOUR: Dark brown

HAIR COLOUR: Very dark brown that looks black.

HEIGHT: About 5'3"

L/R HANDED: Right-handed, though I feel as though I do some things better with my left hand. Apparently when I was young, my parents weren't sure I wasn't going to be left-handed.

THE SHOES YOU WORE TODAY: Just the beach shoes that I use as slippers. Oh, and my sneakers when I went out to get the mail.

YOUR WEAKNESS: Anything related to any of the manga/anime series I really like.

YOUR PERFECT PIZZA: Lots of peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, Italian sausage and tomato sauce, with a thick crust.

GOAL TO ACHIEVE THIS YEAR: Go to AnimeNorth in Toronto, it'll be my first anime convention outside of Quebec.

YOUR MOST OVERUSED PHRASE ON AN INSTANT MESSENGER: "how r u?"

YOUR BEDTIME: Don't have one, but I can't fall asleep before midnight, and I usually sleep at around 2am.

YOUR MOST MISSED MEMORY: Just generally being a young child.

PEPSI OR COKE: Pepsi

McDONALDS OR BURGERKING: Burger King tastes better, but there's a McDonald's nearer me, so...

SINGLE OR GROUP DATES: If we're talking about an actual date, single.

LIPTON ICE TEA OR NESTEA: I hate ice tea. >.<

CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA: Neither. What's with these bland/unoriginal flavors? I love the two greens (pistachio and mint'n'chips), but I also like rocky road and a blue-colored ice cream that I once tasted internationally, but I can't remember what the flavor was called... it had some kind of nuts in it.

CAPPUCCINO OR COFFEE: Both taste awful to me.

DO YOU SMOKE: Never have, never will, I'm too afraid to try anyway.

DO YOU SWEAR: A bit, but more when I'm angry.

DO YOU SING: Well, I can sing on-key, but as for my voice, I don't know if it's nice.

DO YOU SHOWER DAILY: Sort of. I don't like showers, but I do wash every day.

HAVE YOU BEEN IN LOVE: Unfortunately, when I was still kinda young (younger than a teenager), and when I was a young teenager too, though the latter was more of a crush.

DO YOU WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE: Already been there.

DO YOU WANT TO GET MARRIED: I just want stability and safety, so I'd say yes, but it'd only be with an assurance of never getting divorced.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF: Nope.

DO YOU GET MOTION SICKNESS: Compared to the others in my family, not really. I don't get sick in a plane, and I only start to feel light-headed in the car after several hours or I've been reading or playing some kind of video game.

ARE YOU A HEALTH FREAK: Nope, but I wouldn't mind being one.

DO YOU LIKE THUNDERSTORMS: They're very pretty to watch, but frightening.

DO YOU PLAY AN INSTRUMENT: Used to play the piano for 7 years, but I stopped several years ago.

In the past month have you
1. DRUNK ALCOHOL: Half a glass of wine, I think... just socially, at dinner.
2. SMOKED: Nope.
3. BEEN ON DRUGS: Nope.
4. GONE TO A MALL: Nope.
5. EATEN A BOX OF OREOS: Nope.
6. EATEN SUSHI: Nope... not that I hate sushis, but I'm not as big a fan as the rest of my family, plus eating sushi too often can make you sick.
7. BEEN ON STAGE: Nope.
8. BEEN DUMPED: Ha! I haven't been dumped in about 12 years, except if you count those real life meetings of people you meet online.

DO YOU WORK: Yes.

In a boy/girl:
FAVORITE EYE COLOUR: Green or purple.
FAVORITE HAIR COLOUR: Hazelnut to dark brown (looks like black). I am not a fan of blond.
WEIGHT: Healthy minimum weight to slight muscles.
BEST CLOTHING STYLE: Frankly, I like the normal look, but I love the classy look, the one that says that you have some sense of style without being a victim of the latest fashion trend.

NUMBER OF CDS I OWN: Probably over 100 in total, most of them anime.
NUMBER OF PIERCINGS: Only my ears.
NUMBER OF TATTOOS: I've gotten fake tattoos in the past, but no real ones.
THINGS IN MY PAST I REGRET: Too many to name, but basically almost everything I've ever done or said, and having trusted exactly the wrong person when I was young.

Tag 6 people - halo2298, gunsofporn, kanglin, jjblue1, alexiel0927, pockythoughts

Life meme

1. What bill do you hate paying the most?
I'm not gonna tell you which one, but it's that of one of my VISAs.

2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner?
Not that I consider it a romantic dinner or anything, but last time I had lunch (rather than dinner) with a guy was at a McDonald's.

3. Do you regret losing your virginity to who you lost it to?
I've never lost it.

4. If you could go back and change one thing what would it be?
Only one? Well, I guess I wouldn't have fallen in love young.

5. Name of your first grade teacher?
Claire. She was one of two Claires that taught in the first grade (the best, in my opinion), but I can't remember either of their last names.

6. What do you really want to be doing right now?
Rewatching .hack//SIGN, and especially the .hack//Unison episode. I'm on the second .hack game right now and it makes me desire SIGN so badly.

7. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Veterinarian til my late teens, when I realized how much grossness it could involve; lawyer since then, because of the very interesting TV dramas I saw that had lawyers in them.

8. How many colleges did you attend?
Three, long story, don't feel like sharing the details.

9. Why did you choose the shirt that you have on right now?
Turtleneck, since the temperature was in the negative Celcius degrees and I easily get cold at the office.

10. What are your thoughts on gas prices?
Ridiculous. People should just use hybrids.

11. If you could move anywhere and take someone with you where would it be?
Japan, and I have no idea. There's no one I care about enough to want to live with them.

12. First thought when the alarm went off this morning?
Five more minutes, must turn off.

13. Last thought before going to sleep last night?
I finally beat .hack//Mutation, so I was mostly thinking about what I had left to do to unlock all of the pictures, BGMs and videos. I mostly want to unlock those memory scenes from the .hack//SIGN anime. They're scenes that took place in the anime, but in those memory scenes, they're animated in the style of the games. It was already very interesting to meet Mimiru (character from SIGN) in a dungeon near the end of the game. The scene was slightly reminiscent of her first meeting with Tsukasa, with some of the lines being identical.

14. Favorite style of underwear?
Anything that doesn't involve a tiny line between my buttocks. Those sound painful and damn uncomfortable.

15. If you didn't have to work, would you volunteer?
Maybe two or three times a week at an old folks' home. They're really some of the most interesting people to talk to when they don't go into lecture mode.

16. If you could choose one friend to take to Vegas with you for the weekend.
I don't really have any friends...

17. What is your favorite drink?
Pepsi, hands down. I also like strawberry milk a lot.

18. Get up early or sleep in?
Definitely sleep in. As I always say, morning just wasn't made for work. Least of all when the sun isn't even fully up outside. How depressing is that, anyway, to go to work while it's still semi-dark outside? Plus I'm more of a nocturnal person. I can't very well fall asleep before at least midnight or 1am.

19. What is your favorite cartoon character?
If we're talking about American cartoons, Captain Planet, hands down.
If we're talking about manga/anime, Sumeragi Subaru of Tokyo Babylon. Close seconds are Allen Walker from D.Gray-Man, Kamui Shirou from X, Kira Yamato from Gundam Seed, both Tsukasa and Elk from the .hack series, Andromeda Shun from Saint Seiya and Takaba Akihito from the Viewfinder yaoi series.

20. Favorite thing to do at night with the opposite sex?
Watch anime with some good food.

21. Have you found real love yet?
I thought I did, but it didn't mean anything to the other person. Plus it was young love, so maybe it doesn't count, but I still can't forget about it.

22. When did you first start feeling old?
24, the age when my mother got married.

23. Favorite 80's movie(s):
Does the Disney animated movie The Black Cauldron count?

24. Your favorite lunch meat?
Chicken, hands down. Chicken breasts are ok but very dry, so I prefer the thighs and wings.

25. What do you get every time you go into Costco/Walmart?
I don't go there often, but if I do, Head&Shoulders shampoo and some juices.

26. Beach or Lake?
Not that the beach isn't beautiful or anything, but a lake is so much more picturesque. Not to mention calmer.

27. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual?
Marriage is something that people these days take too lightly. I could go on and on about the link I see there between the feminism movement and broken marriages. It just seems like there are a lot more sluts than, say, a century ago. Not to mention women who are vulgar in both their speech and attitude. It's rather disgusting really. And btw, speaking of outdated things... if you're a woman and you have an argument with a man you're living and sleeping with, don't just assume that he'll be the one to take the couch that night. If I were a man and I paid the bills of the house, I'd make you sleep outside in the cold if you dared to demand that I sleep on the couch. If you're going to be a bitch about some stupid argument, then take the damn couch yourself.

28. Do you own property?
Nope.

29. Favorite guilty pleasure?
Yaoi manga.

30. Favorite movie you wouldn't want anyone to find out about?
It's more the opposite: I want to show everything that I love to everyone I meet.

31. What's your favorite perfume?
Right now, Voile d'Ambre by Yves Rocher. Deliciously spicy smelling perfume. It helps that it has jasmine, as almost all of my favorite fragrances have at least a touch of jasmine. A close second would probably be Yria by the same company.

32. Cowboys or Indians?
Cowboys are hot. *grins*

33. Cops or Robbers?
Cops aren't so hot, but I never did like the bad guys.

34. Who from high school would you like to run in to?
From high school, not much of anyone. Well, maybe Agnes. We weren't friends or anything, but she was a nice, smart girl. But from grade school, I would say Valerie, Marie-Christine and Madeleine.

35. What radio station is your car radio tuned to right now?
LiteRock Q92, 92.5 FM, and I totally recommend it. Rock beats all the pop, rap and R&B crap you hear about people's butts (*cough*Beyonce*cough*), violence or their crappy lives, these days.

37. 'The Cosby Show' or 'The Simpsons'?
I don't particularly like either, so I'll say The Cosby Show. The animation style of The Simpsons annoys me to no end.

38. Worst relationship mistake that you wish you could take back?
It's like I said above: I never would have fallen in love young.

39. Do you like the person who sits directly across from you at work?
Well, it's my father, so yes.

40. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?
Eric McCormack. For one thing, he's not one of the Hollywood whores, and he seems like a very nice, funny and intelligent guy.

41. Indoors or Outdoors?
Ideally, outdoors; realistically, indoors.

42. Have you ever crashed your vehicle?
Yes, but it was never anything serious or life-threatening.

43. Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher for its actual purpose?
Nope.

44. Last book you read for real?
Book 11 of The Wheel of Time, titled Knife of Dreams, probably. But if scanlations count, then Death Note volume 7.

46. Strangest place you have ever brushed your teeth?
Public restroom. It just feels weird, ok?

47. Somewhere in California you've never been and would like to go?
Maybe Hollywood, just for the hell of it? Otherwise, nothing comes to mind.

48. Do you go to church?
Only on occasions like Easter, and only because it makes my family happy. I hate church.

49. At this point in your life, would you start a new career?
Right now, no. A few years from now, maybe. I just don't have any motivation. *sighs*

50. How old are you?
28

1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your current favorite song, your favorite kind of sandwich, or maybe your favorite game. Any remark, meaningless or not.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.

1. What was your favourite TV show as a kid?
Probably Captain Planet. It resembles anime in many ways, come to think of it, and I have to admit I still miss it a little.

2. Do you have a favourite shirt? Explain it?
Not particularly. Fashion isn't a big thing with me. I wear things for comfort except for special occasions, and I don't have many of those. Most of the time I'll just wear a pair of jeans with whatever color shirt I feel like wearing. So if I had to pick a favorite color of shirt, I'd have to say anything red or blue.

3. Do you have a comfort food as such?
Anything chocolaty, but mostly milk chocolate. A bar of Caramilk is best, but Mint'n'Chips ice cream will do just as well.

4. If you were a superhero what would your superhero alias be?
Err... Lazy Pants? lol

5. What do you think is the most over-rated thing right now?
It's a tie between most current music (pop, rap, R&B, female country (I don't care what anyone says, women just should not be allowed to sing country, they sound awful)), romantic comedies and horror movies.

Random quiz thing

1. What is in the back seat of your car right now?
A box of Kleenex.

2. When was the last time you threw up?
Sometime in October 2006. I had just eaten McDonald's the day before, so I think perhaps it was mild food poisoning.

3. What's your favorite curse word?
Damn. Or shit.

4. Name 3 people who made you smile today?
Well, my mother just once. Otherwise, if manga/anime characters count, then Light and L from Death Note.

5. What were you doing at 8 am this morning?
On my way to work, unfortunately.

6. What were you doing 30 minutes ago?
In Ocarina of Time, was finishing up getting all my Gold Skulltulas and also completing the Gerudo Training Ground and getting over 1500 points at the archery competition to get my quiver upgrade.

8. Have you ever been to a strip club?
No.

9. What is the last thing you said aloud?
Probably a curse word in regards to falling in the lava in the room that's full of it at the Gerudo Training Ground.

10. What is the best ice cream flavor?
Mint'n'Chips, Pistachio, Rocky Road

11. What was the last thing you had to drink?
Milk, to go with the Smarties from the question below.

12. What are you wearing right now?
Red turtleneck, light blue sports pants.

13. What was the last thing you ate?
Sun-dried pieces of various fruits (a mixed bag) and a mini box of Smarties, with which I took a glass of milk. I really don't like fruits as much as vegetables, so I needed to get the taste of them out of my mouth.

14. Have you bought any new clothing items this week?
No. Last time I bought a new shirt was two months ago.

15. When was the last time you ran?
Three Saturdays ago, November 17th, to catch the bus.

16. What's the last sporting event you watched?
I dislike sports, especially on TV. There's really no point to it for me. It's the same as watching reality TV, in a way, and that's boring enough.

18. Who is the last person you sent a comment/message on myspace?
I wouldn't bother with MySpace. You could get a virus from there, or someone could steal your identity. There was an article about it and two other potentially unsafe sites. FaceBook was also one of those.

19. Ever go camping?
I have been maybe twice in my entire life, hated both experiences. I just can't sleep when a mosquito is constantly buzzing around me in a high-pitched tone, even if there's a tent separating us.

20. Do you have a tan?
My natural skin color is a light tan, but I do have a slight tan from this summer on my forearms, from driving on days when the sun was very strong.

21-23 weren't there when I got this... don't look at me like that... >.<

24. Do you drink your soda from a straw?
Depends. If I have the leisure of a proper glass, I just pour my soda into a glass, and then don't use a straw. But if I'm forced to drink from the can, I try to get a straw from the restaurant (fast-food place or whatever) along with my can. It's just not very clean to drink directly from the can.

25. What did your last text message say?
My last email message was PayPal-related, so that's private. My last Ebay message was a question about Death Note Vol 1 Limited Edition DVD that someone was selling. My last post on this journal was more quizzes.

26. Are you someone's best friend?
Probably not.

27. What are you doing tomorrow?
Making the beds when I wake up, then when one of the cars becomes available, I'll go to the gym. In the evening, I will most likely continue reading the scanlations I have of Death Note, and possibly re-watching D.Gray-Man episode 61's raw if the mood strikes me. If Order's sub comes out for episode 60 by tomorrow evening, of course I'll watch that too.

28. Where is your mom right now?
Sleeping in her bed.

29. Look to your left, what do you see?
On my desk, a stack of CDs, a little further and behind my desk, my bed, not yet unmade for the night.

30. what color is your watch?
Silver and a very light gold, but the main parts are silver.

31. What do you think of when you think of Australia?
Kangaroos, the Crocodile Hunter, and more recently the Oceania Branch Head from D.Gray-Man.

32. Ever ridden on a roller coaster?
Sure, but I can't stomach the ones that go upside down.

33. What is your birthstone?
Depends on who you check with. On one site I saw that it was the pearl, but then a Google search seemed to indicate that there's more than one for Gemini (my sign): agate, chrysoprase, citrine, moonstone, pearl, sapphire (white), tiger's eye, emerald.

34. Do you go in at a fast food place or just hit the drive thru?
Depends. If it's a place downtown, I only go there for Concordia Otaku's anime screenings, so I just go in, grab my order and go back to eat it in the screening room. That's if I like what they're showing at the time when I'm eating, otherwise I might just sit and eat at the restaurant. Then for places like McDonald's, I don't bother with getting out of the car unless the drive-through is packed.

35. What is your favorite number?
7 and 8. 8 because it is a money number in numerology, 7 just because.

36. Do you have a dog?
No, but I want one. :(

37. Last person you talked to on the phone?
My brother.

38. Have you met anyone famous?
The guy who created the dictation I went to on TV, Dictée PGL, and that's about it.

39. Any plans today?
Well, we're no longer really the same day as when I began writing this, and tomorrow hasn't yet really begun, so please refer to an earlier question above for my plans for the day.

40. How many states have you lived in?
None, I'm in Canada.

41.Ever go to college?
I went for a 3-year program and graduated.

42. Where are you right now?
In my room.

43. Biggest annoyance in your life right now?
Feeling worthless.

44. Last song listened to?
Alumina, by the japanese group Nightmare. A Death Note song, the first ending theme. A damn good song.

46. Are you allergic to anything?
Penicillin.

47. Favorite pair of shoes you wear all the time?
Sneakers specifically for tennis.

49. Are you jealous of anyone?
It's not a matter of jealousy for me.

50. Is anyone jealous of you?
Probably not.

51. Do you love anyone?
Sort of.

52. Do any of your friends have children?
Friends as such, no. But I know that a few of my cousins have children.

53. Do you eat healthy?
Most of the time, I eat fairly healthy. I try to get in 3 portions of dairy per day, eat rice or some kind of pasta with almost every dish, and eat a lot of ground meat and chicken, and occasionally some fish. I don't get to eat nearly the proper amount of portions of fruits and vegetables, and I usually need at least one taste of chocolate per day (even if only one bite). I have fast food about once per week, except on weeks when I indulge in fast-food when I go to the Concordia anime club's screenings. Though one dish that I eat a lot on those days is considered fast-food, it still has egg noodles, some vegetables, chicken, pork and shrimp. So, not too unhealthy.

54. What do you usually do during the day?
Go to work or watch TV while being on the computer. And I try to put in at least 3-4 days per week of going to the gym, even when I work.

55. Do you hate anyone right now?
People don't matter enough to me that I'd waste the energy on hating them. I'm simply indifferent to most people.

56. Do you use the word 'hello' daily?
Not really. I'm not a morning person, and I don't see many people during the day even when I'm working.

58. How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
28.

59. Have you ever been to Six Flags?
No.

60. How did you get one of your scars?
Three are on my right hand, from when I fell from my bike, when I was young, and landed on my side after doing a too-sharp U-turn.
First, since everyone seems to be doing this thing:

Lets101 - Free Online Dating

And some middle name thing. I don't have a middle name, but this looks fun and my mother *did* almost call me Pamela, so I'll use P.

Use the first letter of your middle name to answer the rest of the questions.

Your Middle Name: Pamela
Famous Artist/Band/Musician: Picasso
Four letter word: Pace
U.S. state: Pennsylvania
Boy Name: I know a guy named Philip, but I like Pierre better.
Girl Name: One of my sister's friends is Patricia, and one of mine is Paula.
Occupation: Physician, Pediatrician
Something you wear: Perfume, or if that doesn't really count, Pants
Something in the kitchen: Pickles, Peanut Butter
Reason for being late: Procrastination
Drink: Pepsi
Candy: Peppermint, and I can thank Wikipedia for finding me one I was forgetting: Praline
Something you shout: Please!
I'm not American either :P

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, internet, or longer life spans.

</sarcasm>

Please post this in your journal if you are for gay marriage.

Concordia's screening - new shows

Well, went to the local Concordia Otaku anime club's screening today. They just started their screenings again, so this was the first of this semester. Their schedule was like this:

1:00 PM Kekkaishi eps. 1-2 *NEW*
1:50 PM History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi eps. 1-2 *NEW*
2:40 PM Romeo x Juliet eps. 1-2 *NEW*
3:30 PM Seto no Hanayome eps. 1-2 *NEW*
4:20 PM Yakitate Japan eps. 65-66

5:10 PM *~~ 35 min Break ~~*

5:45 PM Nodame Cantabile (Live Action) ep. 1
6:40 PM Busou Renkin eps. 13-14
7:30 PM Soukou no Strain eps. 1-2 *NEW*
8:20 PM Claymore eps. 1-2 *NEW*
9:10 PM D. Gray-man eps. 13-14

I wasn't sure whether I should skip the first show, from the summary I'd read of it, but I ended up going for the sake of checking it out. Turns out it was more interesting and less cheesy than I expected, so a pretty ok show. The second show was about what I expected: big-breasted ass-kicking girl and kinda stupid, weak and annoying boy. For a show with a female main character in it, this one was certainly a lot less stupid and annoying than most, and not bitchy despite being tough. So that was a pleasant surprise. The guy, though, has an annoying voice actor, I'm sorry to say. The third show, well, Romeo & Juliet with a twist, and the japanese version of the song "You Raise Me Up", which was the OP of this series, was much more interesting to me than the original song. Overall, this show and Kekkaishi are the ones with that show the most promise of all the early afternoon shows. After all I've heard about Seto no Hanayome, I have to say I find it extremely disappointing. There's too much comedy, and for the most part the comedy is more stupid than funny. The first episode was a bore, and I had a nice nap through the second one. I played a game on my cell phone throughout Yakitate Japan. Such a boring show, with such exaggerated comedy, a boring plot and boring characters, that I don't understand what anyone sees in it at all. I can only hope that they either decide to drop it soon, or it gets licensed so they'll be forced to drop it. Otherwise, this series seems to have an endless number of episodes, enough to make me suffer for years of having to find something to do while it's on.

Now for the second half of the afternoon. If you've ever seen Nodame Cantabile, then you know that it's a pretty ok show, focused on music. I never bothered to follow this show past the two episodes that the club showed sometime last semester. It was an ok show, but I wasn't interested enough to go and download episodes. Well, the Live Action movie is really pretty good, and it had me perhaps rethinking my stance on the anime. I might just put this on my list of anime to watch if I get a chance. It has the right mix of comedy, serious elements, interesting characters with depth, and good music. Apparently its spot is, as of this semester, the spot reserved for random new series that they'll be changing every week. Busou Renkin is fairly ordinary as shounen shows go, but it just started to get interesting at the end of episode 14. Well, more interesting than it's been so far. It's really an ok show that I watch cauz it's fairly enjoyable, but again, nothing I'd download. One thing though, and this is a spoiler, so I've made the text white so you need to select it to view it if you don't mind being spoiled: Kazuki's transformation at the end of episode 14, after his supposed "death" because he got a hole pierced through his chest and his kakugane knocked out of him in the process, was very 'Goku turns into a Super Saiyajin' to me. Only I guess Kazuki would be more like Vejita, since his opponent was already in that form before him. For Soukou no Strain, the main character annoyed me to no end with her ugly hairstyle, and also, regarding the end of episode 1, if you can't scream properly, just don't do it at all. God, that was awful. Not to mention pretty pointless, at that point. I only started to dislike her less in the next episode, because she became more competent, less whiny, and more mature. I guess this show has a bit of promise, but I'm certainly looking forward to more of the brother, because he kicks ass. Claymore, I never liked it from the moment I first saw it at the Otakuthon screening where it was shown. I had watched the first episode purely out of curiosity, but it was the generic 'main character slays monster to protect people' theme, plus the main character herself was half a monster, and well, if you know me, you know that I'm already predisposed to dislike most female main characters. This one barely has a personality, so boring. I just skipped watching the episodes entirely this time, but who knows, I might give it more of a chance next week now that we've moved past the introduction of the main character and the sort of 'sidekick' she acquired when she saved him. Now as for D.Gray-Man, as far as I'm concerned, the only thing that keeps it from being a really good show are the highly unnecessary fillers that make up most of this series and make it very boring. The manga is far ahead, that's why it's unnecessary. I've avoided the stupid fillers like the plague, only watching the next episode preview at the end of each to see if the next episode would also be filler. The episodes shown today, the second one was filler, so I left after the first. The first one was mainly the introduction of a new exorcist main character, Lavi, a pretty likeable and friendly guy, as well as Allen dealing with some personal issues. Overall a very good episode, though not as good as, say, the previous Miranda episodes, or the upcoming Crowley episodes. Unfortunately, the next two screenings will also have filler episodes, and with the Halloween special, we should only get back on track with manga material on November 10th.

So overall, the second half of the screening was quite a bit more interesting than the first half. This semester in general will have more interesting shows than the last, so that's something to be thankful for. I'm just hoping this Romeo & Juliet anime adaptation actually gets interesting and doesn't become too cheesy.

Cynthia

Jasmine. It reminds me of when I was young, I used to smell perfumes either of jasmine or jasmine-based, and it's such a soft, sweet smell that it stuck in my mind. Even now, most of the perfumes I prefer contain jasmine.

Cynthia

Yet another odd test! :P

1. When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was your first thought?
My hair doesn't look as bad as I thought it would...

2. When's the next time you will have sex?
I never have in the first place...

3. What's a word that rhymes with "DUCK"?
Fuck.

4. Favorite planet?
Pluto

5.Who is the 4th person on your missed call list?
I don't exactly get many calls, but I would say probably my sister.

6. What is your favorite ring on your phone?
Um, I don't remember its name, but it's kinda cheerful.

7. What shirt are you wearing?
My sister's shirt, something rather form-fitting, cream-colored, long-sleeved and with a sort of thin belt on the front in the same tissue as the shirt.

8. What were you doing 20 minutes ago?
Drinking Diet Pepsi while checking my emails.

9. Name the brand of shoes you're currently wearing?
I don't know the brand, they're slippers. :P

10. You're in a bright or Dark Room?
Bright because the lights are turned on, but some of the bulbs are burned out.

11. What do you think about the person who posted this survey?
She's pretty interesting to chat with, and draws really well. ^_^

12. If you're in a room with two beds, which one do you sleep on?
The one that's the least hard, and preferrably the smaller one.

13. What were you doing at exactly midnight last night?
I was downloading some anime episodes, of Night Head Genesis, to be exact, and checking the LJ community Yaoi_Daily.

14. What was your last text message you received on your mobile.
I don't have that option on my cell, because I don't need it.

15. How do you like your eggs?
Omelette is the best, or scrambled, but a hard-boiled mashed egg sandwich with mayo is pretty good.

16. What's a word/phrase that you say a lot?
"Dammit!" "Give me a break!"

17. Who told you he/she loved you last?
Probably my mother.

18. Last furry thing you touched?
My .hack//SIGN Tsukasa plush. But that's not exactly furry, so I'll say my 2000 and 2001 Sears Christmas plushies.

19. How many Drugs have you done in the last three days?
I don't do drugs...

20. How many rolls of film do you need to get developed?
None.

21. Favorite age you have been so far?
14.

22. Your worst enemy?
Either the first boy I ever loved or myself.

23. What wallpaper do you have on your desktop?
An insert image version of the cover of the yaoi manga Koi no Kawaki.

24. What was the last thing you said to someone?
"Bye!" to both my brother, who was going out as I came into the home, and my coworkers as I left work.

25. If you had to choose between a million bucks or to be able to fly?
A million bucks, because being able to fly wouldn't help you live.

26. Do you like someone?
Yeah, but he probably doesn't like me in the same way.

27. The last song you listened to?
Willingly? Otherwise it's some Christmas song that was playing on my way back home in the car, some lyricless jingle.

28. If the last person you talked to was getting shot, what would you do?
They're a coworker, so I wouldn't care all that much.

29. If you could punch 1 person in the face, who would it be?
Probably one of the sluts of the pop culture world, like Shakira.

30. What is the closest object to your left foot?
There's nothing there except my chair foot, unless you count my bed.

girly quesions (Oh my....)

1. Do you forget to take off your makeup when you go to sleep?
Sometimes. I hardly ever put more than lipstick on though.

2. Have u kissed any one on ur top list?
I don't have a top list, so no.

3. Are you happy with your looks?
Not really.

4. Do you enjoy drama?
Sort of. Anime dramas are done much better than American dramas, which tend to overdramatize.

5. Are you a girly girl?
Not really.

7. Do you hate cramps?
Well, gee, of course not, I love them! I'm a sadist who loves pain, after all! Who makes these stupid questions anyway?

8. Are you short?
Technically I'm 5'2", so yes.

9. Do you like someone right now?
I guess.

12. Do you think you're conceited?
A little.

12. Are you a bitch?
Probably.

13. Have u ever got in a cat fight?
I've hit another girl before, sure, but nothing like hair-pulling or anything.

14. Who would you like to hit right now?
Like I said before, Shakira.

15. Which class is most boring in school?
I'm not in school right now, but honestly, French.

16. What class do you love the most?
I'm still not in school right now, but I've always loved Philosophy.

17. Is there any type of rumor going around about you?
There always are anyway. *sighs*

18. Do you call anybody by there last name?
No one except the clients I serve at RBC.

20. How many guys do u think will end up reading this, just because the subject ?
One, I think, because he's pretty much the only guy who's a good friend of mine and who would check my LJ just as I check his.

Cynthia

1. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
When I go to work, I'll be waking up at around 6:30 - 7:00am, but right now I'm waking up at around 10:30 - 11:00am.

2. IF YOU COULD EAT LUNCH WITH ONE FAMOUS PERSON,WHO WOULD IT BE?
Probably Eric McCormack or Sean Hayes. Will & Grace is such an awesome sitcom that Friends doesn't even begin to compare to it. Will & Grace is smart, sophisticated humor that you never tire of.

3. GOLD OR SILVER?
I prefer the color gold, but silver looks better on me.

4. WHAT WAS THE LAST FILM YOU SAW AT THE CINEMA?
That was quite a while ago... The DaVinci code, I believe it was.

5. FAVOURITE TV SHOW?
Any anime series and OAVs (not movies though), Will & Grace, Two and a Half Men, CSI (and all its derivatives), Cold Case, Cold Squad, Law & Order, Without a Trace, Billable Hours, 20/20, America's Funniest Home Videos, Curb Your Enthusiasm.

6. WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST?
Usually Muslix cereal, sometimes a toast or two, and occasionally eggs and sausages.

7. WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE LEFT IN A ROOM WITH?
Fictional characters: Kira or Athrun
Real people: Ishida Akira, Sasaki Nozomu or Kusao Takeshi

8. CAN YOU TOUCH YOUR NOSE WITH YOUR TONGUE?
Not really.

9. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Quite frankly, anime, and work experiences.

10. WHAT'S YOUR MIDDLE NAME?
Don't have one.

11. BEACH, CITY, OR COUNTRY?
Well, country has too many bugs even though there are horses there, and city has computers, and I can't live without computers. :P

12. SUMMER OR WINTER?
Summer, definitely. Winter is a pain in the ass with snow storms, ice storms and black ice. Plus, you get to dress lightly in summer.

13. YUM?
If you mean something I adore, how about mint and chips ice cream? Then there's also Lay's Ketchup chips.

14. BUTTERED, PLAIN, OR SALTED POPCORN?
I'd have to say buttered *and* salted, otherwise it wouldn't taste much.

15. FAVOURITE CAR?
The little ladybug shaped one. What could possibly be more practical to park?

16.FAVOURITE SANDWICH FILLING?
Egg, or chicken with salad sheets.

17. FAVOURITE TYPE OF MUSIC?
J-pop, anime, classical, rock, 80s.

19. WHAT CHARACTERISTIC DO YOU DESPISE?
Stupidity, and people who are slow, or who pretend not to understand.

20. FAVOURITE FLOWER?
Maybe the lily, or the purple orchid. Well, one that I know for sure that I like is the lilac.

21. IF YOU HAD A BIG WIN IN THE LOTTERY, HOW LONG WOULD YOU WAIT TO SPEND IT ALL?
All, probably a number of years. I'd probably put about nine tenths of it in a bank account and buy whatever strikes my fancy with the rest.

22. DO YOU WEAR PYJAMAS?
Not always. On really hot summer nights, I just wear briefs to bed.

23. WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR EYES?
Dark brown.

24. HOW MANY KEYS ON YOUR KEY RING?
Only one, since I only have the house key, as I don't own a car of my own.

25 WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO RETIRE?
Maybe Japan, Greece or Egypt.

26. CAN YOU JUGGLE?
Hehe, no way.

27. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE DAY OF THE WEEK?
Friday, because YTV has some good anime series on Friday evenings, right into the early morning hours.

28. HAVE YOU EVER DRUNK WINE?
Yup.

29. WHAT DID YOU DO FOR YOUR LAST BIRTHDAY?
Just ate out with my family.

30. DO YOU CARRY A DONOR CARD?
Yup. Blood donor one too.

31.WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW?
Fantasy, manga, and a book with three mystery stories in it.

32. FAVOURITE BOARD GAME?
Monopoly or Risk.

33. FAVOURITE MAGAZINE?
Well, I don't read conventional magazines, but if it can be called that, then BeBoy Gold.

34. FAVOURITE SMELLS?
Pur Desir de Gardenia, MilRose, Nature Millenaire, Orchidee, Venice, Cantate, all fragrances by Yves Rocher.

35. COMFORT FOOD?
Mixed nuts, or mint and chips or strawberry ice cream, or chocolate chip cookies.

36. FAVOURITE SOUND?
Doorbell, since it announces a package. Otherwise, I'd have to say any kind of pleasant-sounding chimes, and if the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time game is anything to go by, the sound of an ocarina too.

37. WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD?
Feeling worthless and/or rejected.

38. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
I have some pretty weird dreams, so sometimes I'm trying to fit my dream into the reality. Mostly I just think of what TV shows I want to watch and what websites I have to catch up to on my computer.

39. Favourite FAST FOOD PLACE?
A&W tastes better than McDonald's, but the latter is often cheaper and closer to me. Otherwise, I'd have to say the chinese and vietnamese place called Happy Noodle.

41. FINISH THIS STATEMENT. "IF I HAD A LOT OF MONEY,
I'd buy a lot of anime DVDs and CDs, as well as Yves Rocher fragrances to complete my collection.

43. DO YOU SLEEP WITH A STUFFED ANIMAL?
Yeah, but I limit myself to Tsukasa and Maha, else I'd want them all there. :P

44. STORMS; COOL OR SCARY?
Mostly cool, but a little bit of both. It's scarier when you're outside during one, or when the lights go out.

46. FAVOURITE DRINK?
Pepsi, apple juice, lemonade.

47. FINISH THIS STATEMENT, "IF I HAD THE TIME...
I'd travel to all the places I want to visit, like Greece, Japan and Egypt, and go to anime conventions all over Canada and the US, since I've never been to one before.

48. DO YOU EAT STEMS OF BROCCOLI?
Yup.

49. IF YOU COULD DYE YOUR HAIR ANY COLOR, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
If I wanted to go with my absolute favorite, it'd be royal blue, but if I wanted to choose a color that would suit me, it would be medium chestnut.

50. WHAT IS UNDER YOUR BED?
Sometimes a few pairs of shoes, though most of these go into the closet. Otherwise, I guess dust bunnies and bugs. :P
